Pink Toilet for women in Hyderabad

Greater Municipal Corporation (GHMC) integrated Pink toilets named “She Mart and Loo’s” in order to provide women with safe and hygienic toilets.

Under this public baby feeding rooms are also being launched in the “She Mart and Loo’s”. The will stock eco-friendly, manufactured by self-help groups. They also have CCTV cameras to ensure safety.

Hari Chandana, GHMC West Zone Commissioner told ANI: “GHMC has integrated two needs for women in Hyderabad out of which one of them is safe toilets which are run by women. Most of the toilets are usually managed by men in the city and as a result, women feel shy to use them. The pink toilets will be maintained by the revenue which is generated from the Mart.”

Delhi Gets Its First Pink Toilet For Women!

On International Day of the Girl Child {Oct 11}, the city’s first “pink toilet” was inaugurated in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area by the Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation {SDMC}.

This toilet for women that has a sanitary napkin vending machine, a breastfeeding area for mothers and incinerator facilities is located near PVR Vikaspuri. While the upkeep of these washrooms depends on both the authorities and the women using this facility, we’re just glad that the civic agencies are taking a step towards changing things for the better.

SDMC plans to construct more such “pink toilets” across Delhi and will be inviting applications from people who wish to get this facility opened in their area.

While living in Delhi has its own share of pros and cons, we cannot help but appreciate this move that ensures that women have easy access to hygienic public washrooms. Maybe there’s hope for this city after all.
