The Paper and Allied Merchants’ Association will organise programmes on August 1 to mark ‘Paper Day’ and will release a special cover.
According to a press release, programmes at all-India level include contests for schoolchildren, releasing a short film busting myths about paper, and distribution of notebooks with Paper Day messages to deserving students. Paper traders across the country will observe the day.
The national-level bodies of the paper industry decided last year to observe August 1 as Paper Day. It was the day the Handmade Paper Institute, Pune, was inaugurated in 1940. In Coimbatore, Mariamma Thomas, Post Master General, Western Region, will release the special cover. The president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, V.
