HIMA DAS – FIRST SPORTS AMBASSADOR OF ASSAM
Indian Athlete Hima Das is named as the first sports ambassador of the state.
The announcement came after Hima Das recently became the first Indian woman to win gold at IAAF World U-20 Athletics Championships.
Assam government has decided to make Hima Das state’s brand ambassador for sports and also to organise a state level felicitation ceremony for her.
ASIAN GAMES 2018:
On 26 August 2018, she set the Indian National record again when she bettered her time to 50.79 s in the 400 m final to win a silver medal.
In Women’s 4 × 400 metres relay on 30 August 2018, she, along with M. R. Poovamma, Sarita Gayakwad and V. K. Vismaya won the gold medal for India clocking 3:28.72
Hima Das born on 9 January 2000 at Kandhulimari village, near Dhing Town of Nagaon district in the state of Assam to Ronjit and Jonali Das, who are rice farmers. She is the youngest of five children.
She attended the Dhing Public high School and initially trained in football with boys.
She is nicknamed ‘Dhing Express’ after her village in Assam.
